A lovely, peaceful area perfect for getting out of the city and into nature. It's been wonderful to see the steps the municipality have taken to clean up the area and protect the natural resources. Huge improvement from a few years ago! The town centre is vibey and best for travellers looking for a bit of a party. But Ninh Binh is surrounded by plenty of peaceful homestays that are perfect for relaxing. The best attractions are Trang An boat tours (don't bother with the Tam Coc boats), Mua Caves and look-out point, and biking around the little roads.SarahSouth Africa - 10Scored 10

Ninh binh as a city is nothing much.
Ninh binh as a city is nothing much. About 6-8km to the west are beautiful limestone karsts covered with vegetation with rivers running around and through them. Boat trips can be taken from tam coc or trang an. Trang an is prettier and less busy. The trips at both places take you to temples and pagodas, through caves. Trips last about 2-3hours. There are many others things to do such as trek in national parks, bird sanctuary, visit the largest temple Bai Dinh (go at 3, quieter and cooler and watch sunset from pagoda then walk down the hill with everything lit up). The most enjoyable thing to do is just be in amongst the karsts. Ride bikes or walk. It is hot and humid. More so than Halong bay. Avoid the heat of the day so take a long lunch break. I still personally prefer ninh binh limestone karst area. You have more control and variety of what you do. As my husband pointed out when we arrived at Halong bay it’s very similar. The breakfast is typical Vietnamese, i.e. some fruits, rice, pancakes, white bread, juice, etc. Our bungalow was comfortable and clean and the pool and pool area is great and a perfect place for relaxing. We had three wonderful days in Tam Coc, Trang An and Ninh Binh. Therefore, we would definitely stay at Tam Coc Village Bungalow, again.

The family running the homestay are lovely and very friendly. We rented a scooter from them (the best scooter I´ve rented in Vietnam) and they also helped organize transport out to Hanoi. We liked the homestay so much we extended our stay there!

There are motorcycles for rent and transport service from Noi Bai airport to the hotel and from the hotel to Hanoi or Noi Bai airport.

Motorbike can be rented direct here. Cherry organized the transport to Sapa. Cherry and her family are very kind, helpful and polite. Highly recommended.
