FAQs about hotels in Tokyo

See It to Believe It!

The capital of Japan, Tokyo is a vast, teeming metropolis nestled between mountains and Tokyo Bay. It’s so huge that you’ll have to come to grips with public transport and maybe even experience being pushed onto a train. Yes, it does actually happen!

Get your bearings by ascending the Tokyo World Trade Centre near the waterfront, and savour the fantastic views taking in the red-and-white Tokyo Tower and Shinkuju’s skyscrapers. North is Ueno, home to the best museums (including the Tokyo National Museum) and a large park bursting with cherry blossom in spring.

Equally tranquil are the Chiyoda Imperial Palace and Gardens, surrounded by water. Also in gardens is the Meiji Jingu Shinto shrine in Shibuya, a youthful district where neon abounds.

For more traditional Japanese culture, head to Asakusa whose Sensō-ji Buddhist temple is Tokyo’s oldest temple. Markets in the grounds sell a variety of wares, though shopping in Tokyo is, of course, fantastic wherever you go.

Whether you stay in a Japanese ryokan, luxury Tokyo hotel or a hostel, don’t fly out of Tokyo Narita Airport or Haneda Airport without having tried sushi. Another Japanese institution is the sento (public bath) and onsen (hot springs bath) – a must try. Also incredibly popular are Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea, Asia’s 2 most visited theme parks.

Tokyo and Japan overall is one of those places you are going to miss when back home. Shinjuky, Shibuya, Osaka and Kyoto station are fantastic spots, however everywhere you look streets are clean, people are impeccably dressed, there are nicer public bathrooms that you can find at your own home and the food is top tier. And the public transportation? unbelivable! clean, fast, and on time! like nowhere else in the world.

I didn't feel the crowding of the world's most densely populated city. The only real crowding was in viewing the cherry blossoms found in parks around the city. The few places I experienced were large enough that the crowds were spread out. I would recommend walking in the city to places you want to see (if possible) as the subways do get crowded. I planned to be able to walk an hour or less to my destinations. If you can't/don't like to walk, an IC card or subway pass is a good thing to have. I loved seeing the giant Miyazaki clock and Skytree really gives you an idea of the density and size of Tokyo. The Imperial Palace grounds are beautiful. Meiji Temple is one place I would go back to as I didn't have a lot of time to experience the trails around it. The entrance is lined with an avenue of huge trees.

Tokyo is a city one will visit time after time - there are simply too many quaint and beautiful places to explore. It is also a great transport hub where one can make many day trips from. The service is impeccable - from hole-in-the-wall shops/eateries to established venues. Take time to wonder along side streets and gardens, and take in the sights. With google translate, non-Japanese speakers can also get around quite easily.

Even though Tokyo is a mega-city, we found the city so green, clean, quiet and flowing. Though the streets are crowded with people and/or vehicles, you always have your personal space, no bumping into or touching you by either people on foot or bicycles on the sidewalk. Taxis are easy to get and can get you to your destination with ease and reasonable in price. I am an elderly woman walking with a cane and I could always find handicapped restrooms and wheelchairs available for free when needed-you just need to ask for help. Japan has lots of stairs, but I was able to find escalators and elevators to help me make my way thru the city. Only thing I found difficult was finding resting spots along the way, but I found lots of coffee shops to rest in. The Japanese are courteous, kind and willing to help and many are able to converse in English.

    Not a straightforward city.

Not a straightforward city. Takes a bit of time to explore and venture in the various neighbourhood. But then it gets very exciting and fascinating. We spent 4 days/5nights which just about right to have the right mix between entertainment and culture. Count one day per neighbourhood. Among my favorite: sky tree tower, ninja restaurant, emperor palace, and the cherry trees :) Do book restaurants in advance!

The hotel is a 10-12 minute walk from Shinjuku station, in a nice leafy neighbourhood. There's a great park opposite. A taxi from Shinjuku station is about 900yen. It has a great bakery and bar downstairs, helpful staff, 3 fast lifts and a great area on the second floor to eat and drink. The rooms were pretty spacious with a desk and chair. Check in was easy and they sorted out a taxi to the airport in the early hours which was on time and reliable. Overall, great and felt like a somewhat peaceful retreat after a busy day in Tokyo.

Looking for a hotel in Tokyo and first timer, I didn't researched enough and the hotel is in Kabukicho, which is known for its adult night life, bars and love hotels. My stay was actually really good as I leave each day very early. The room was clean and it had every kind of amenities, even karaoke! Also, it's very close to Shinjuku station, which is very busy, but gives you a point of departure to all Tokyo.

If you're solo travelling look no further than place. Best bang for your buck out there. Capsule hotel so you have some privacy when sleeping. Comes with an artificial hot springs facility. Free food, drinks, coffee and alcohol. The location is perfect too. Right beside Shinjuku train station and Shinjuku itself is where a lot of the nightlife is happening! 10/10 will stay again next time I'm in Tokyo!

Location! The perfect sweet spot between Harajuku and Shibuya crossing. You are close enough to walk to each in 5 minutes but also far away enough from the craziness. Right across from Family mart as well and Blue bottle coffee for early risers. The area is walkable with great food and fun shops that aren’t mainstream as well. Great value considering hostels and capsule hotels are going the same price.

Very convenient for the haneda airport limousine. Not very convenient for travel into many of the parts of Tokyo, but I enjoyed Odaiba, Harajuku & Shibuya with travel times of around an hour. We really appreciate the owner’s hospitality. My husband left his thermal clothing and the owner helped and send it to our friend’s address in Japan. The property is actually conveniently located near Kanda stn, one stop away from Tokyo stn. Next to the property, we can find convenient stores. Not far, can find a lot of good restaurants also.
