On the outskirts of Cardiff, The Bear, Cowbridge is situated in the picturesque market town of Cowbridge, 25 minutes from Cardiff Airport and with good access to the M4 motorway. We absolutely loved the Bear Hotel and always make reservations there when we visit Wales. The rooms are charming with a mix of old and modern furniture, the bathrooms are updated and the showers have good water pressure, important if you have long hair! The breakfast is served in an adorable restaurant immediately across the st with delicious coffee and an array of breakfast foods , cooked to order. I have been stopping here every year for the past 6years around the same time for the autumn internationals it a good standard budget hotel close to railway 20min walk for a 20min train ride to Cardiff meaning I don't have to drive to Cardiff , and they are well accomodating I call up at 21:50 to say that we are returning later than expected and if there was any chance of food and the wait for us and cook a meal for us, what more can you ask for. Défi recommended . Especially for those that don't want to pay ridiculous price .

For this hotel to be advertised as being in Hensol is using a lot of imagination. We were led to believe from your website that we would be 5.5 miles from Fonmon Castle but when picked up by taxi the driver informed us that his Sat-Nav was showing 18.2 miles with Hensol and the Vale of Glamorgan being at least 5 miles nearer to our intended evening destination. 28 minutes and £35 later we arrived at Fonmon Castle
The village is located on the Glamorgan Heritage Coast and offers great walks along the beach. We discovered there is a lot of history to this area and had some good conversations to local residents. The shopping was also good - presents for family at home, but also good supermarkets.
Penarth is a great base for accessing the attractions and nightlife of Cardiff. However, if you don't want to go into Cardiff, there are good restaurants in the town. The people are incredibly friendly and the views over Cardiff Bay or the Bristol Channel are superb. Comeston Country Park and the Marine Walk are accessible for those with mobility problems. The Glamorganshire countryside and coast are easily accessible and we particularly liked Cowbridge and Ogmore by the Sea. We could definitely have stayed longer, and despite February weather, we enjoyed getting out and about.
A holiday town that in years gone by was the destination of choice for South Wales Miners. It is now a quiet, pleasant town ideally placed for the stunning Glamorgan Heritage coast and is within easy reach of both Cardiff and Swansea
Porthcawl is a not a particularly nice place in itself, being an average British seaside resort. The surroundings are just gorgeous though, as the Glamorgan coast is very close by.
Rhoose Airport is a good beginning to an exploration of the Vale of Glamorgan and its fabulous coastal walks. The market town of Cowbridge is a delightful thriving centre to the area, full of cafes and boutique shopping and pubs.
Bridgend town itself has nothing special to offer but there is nothing terrible about it either. There are maybe one or two buildings/structures of historical interest but, basically it is a typical, slightly dysfunctional British working town. There are some nice places to eat and drink and, if you like real ales and real pubs, the Coach is highly recommended. But, Bridgend's greatest asset is its location, in my opinion. There are good road and rail links to the cities of Swansea and Cardiff. But it is also on the edge of the Vale of Glamorgan with its lovely coastline, pretty villages and the lovely old town of Cowbridge. For example, just a few miles out of Bridgend is a circular drive around the coastline, encompassing Ogmore by Sea and Southerndown and St.Brides. If you are a keen hiker this coastline and/or the vale can be walked to from Bridgend or accessed by bus services etc. This is fabulous countryside to have on our doorstep. If you want more coast then there is Porthcawl to explore nearby as well. To the North of the town are the former mining valleys of Ogmore, LLynfi and Garw. These have rugged but beautiful mountain scenery to access. A complete contrast to the vale and the coast. The Bwlch mountain has long been a popular visiting spot and on a clear day you can see across to the Brecon Beacons. The Ogmore valley has long been accessible by a dedicated cycle path.
Charming market town in lovely green vale of Glamorgan. Physic Garden well worth visiting. We enjoyed good pub meals at Duke of Wellington and (in nearby village) Carne Arms.
Historic and interesting town with many pubs and restaurants and situated in the beautiful Vale of Glamorgan and close to the sea. The local church is well worth a visit as it has a medieval garden sited in a new extension.
Interesting place. Wonderful restaurant Alfred’s. Worth a visit. Recommend meal at Llechwen Hall, Cilfynydd Easy access to Cardiff either by bus, quicker by train. Easy to travel via M4 to many seaside resorts and Vale of Glamorgan
A well-positioned budget hotel with very pleasant and attentive staff in easy reach of the airport and other Vale of Glamorgan attractions. The hotel was very clean and well-tended and offered breakfast, bar etc. If we need hotel accomodation in the area again, we would definitely consider it.
beautiful, well-maintained, lovely; hand-sanitizers everywhere were a big plus!
Breakfast in bed was such a treat!! Lucy and Lyndon were incredible hosts~making our stay very enjoyable.
I couldn't find it at first but i called the telephone number provided and a kind gentleman gave me directions. The location was fantastic, very peaceful. I would definitely stay again.
