Gateway to the western fjords, Bergen is a picture-perfect postcard of Norway at its best. Colourful, wooden houses in UNESCO World Heritage-listed Bryggen contrast wonderfully with the lush greenery of the surrounding Seven Mountains.
For fantastic views of Norway’s 2nd largest city, hop on the cable car to Ulriken Mountain. Alternatively, hike or take the funicular railway up to Fløyen Mountain. With beaches sheltered from the North Sea by islands, Bergen is Norway’s busiest port and a popular starting point for fjord cruises and deep sea fishing.
The fish market in the narrow streets of the historic centre is a popular attraction, while just north is 12th-century St Mary’s Church. Around 100 years younger is Bergenhus, one of Norway’s best-preserved forts. Further north is Gamle Bergen, a reconstructed wooden village offering insight into the past.
Cobbled Strandgaten street and Lagunen Storsenter shopping centre are just some shopping options, but items aren’t cheap. As you wander around the city look for work by Dolk, Norway’s best-known street artist. Other cultural offerings are the many museums and a good music scene ranging from classic to indie.
Booking.com’s range of Bergen accommodation extends out towards Bergen Airport in Flesland, the departure point for many workers on the offshore oil and gas rigs.
Bergen is a beautiful city with plenty to do. We stayed at the Radisson in Brygge and found this a central location, with cafes, restaurants, and food all around us on the wharf. We ate in Olivias on the wharf and then Siam Rahtree ( with one of the best massaman curries since I was in Thailand ) And also one of the most stunning sunsets i've ever seen. We went on walking tour with Sami from Twentytour and this was just the best introduction to this beautiful city. Got some books downstairs in Norli with great recommendations. Bergen, you are a beuat!

Very picturesque city at the gateway to the Fjords.
Very picturesque city at the gateway to the Fjords. Pleasant to walk to walk round with no shortage of charm against a stunning natural backdrop. Transport is easily accessible and there are lots of points of interest to absorb the days. It is, as with all Norway, on the expensive side (compared to the UK), with beers being significantly dearer, but if you have looked into the trip, this shouldn't be a surprise.

It's a nice town and a good gateway to explore some of the nearby Fjords and towns, but a week was too long for me. March/April is not the best time to go, since the weather is not good - it rains frequently. The best time to go is certainly in June (the only good month in the year according to locals :-))

We only stayed in Bergen for one and a half days as our main purpose was for the Bergen - Kirkenese round trip cruise. We loved the small town with its colorful houses. Bergen is really a photographer dream place with a lot of nature sceneries as it is the access point to various famous fjords. This was our third time to Norway and we are still planning to come back to visit some other fjords.

We enjoyed taking the funicular, and walking back down through the park to the town.
We visited the Fisheries Museum, the Bryggens Museum, Hanseatic Museum and the Fortress Museum. All were very interesting and fairly close together.
We ate at Pingvinen, which had excellent local food, and a 'good vibe'.
Buy a Bergen card, and then you can travel on all the public transport for free. Also some restaurants will give you a discount on food and beverages (not alcohol).

We traveled from the U.K. and stayed three nights.
We traveled from the U.K. and stayed three nights. I think that was the perfect amount of time to explore the local area. We used the tram to and from the airport which is a great price. We did a boat ride along the Fjords and one evening managed to spot the northern lights. I wish I had taken waterproof trousers as it does rain a lot. We went March 2024 and it was around 5 to 8 degrees whilst we were there.
Spacious room with sitting area (couch and desk); fridge and ironing board/iron INSIDE the room! Most comfortable bed of all the places we stayed during our ~2 weeks’ travels. Spacious bathroom and great shower. Would welcome face/wash cloths for the shower but most of the hotels we stayed didn’t offer these either. We had read prior reviews and did pack our own -thankfully! So close to the airport (1.5 miles) and also close to many restaurants; huge mall too. Huge and good breakfast! Great place to stay in Bergen!
The hotel is a perfect option for visiting Norway on a budget. Whilst a lot of things may have been missing from the room compared to a standard hotel, the price was considerably lower which was very welcome. The bed itself was comfortable, and the bathroom good too. Check in process was easy (and automated) which is very helpful if you’re arriving from a late flight! The walk to town was very short, and I felt safe walking there even very late at night.
This is a great downtown hotel with fun decor and exceptionally friendly, helpful staff. The breakfast was fantastic with a lot of delicious choices, much like in almost all other places in Norway. It was very conveniently located to the train to the airport. We took a taxi there because we arrived very late at night, and it was our first time in Bergen, but it's only a five minute walk to the train, and we could have saved ourselves a lot of money.
Best hotel from all our stays in Norway. From the cleanness, service (very kind, friendly and helpful receptionist) , room bit small but very nice, modern and cozy, location very close to the port, fish market and walking distance to everywhere, excellent breakfast etc.
Unfortunately we stay only one night, but my next visit I will definitively stay here again.
In short EVERYTHING!!
This was the best stay we ever had during our all time vacation. Amazing apartment. It truly deserves the highest rating among all options. I strongly recommend this to all who want to have a good stay experience along with exploring beautiful Norway overall.
Nice clean apartment in the heart of Bergen city, near to Byparken metro.
The location of this hotel is just a short walk to the airport! We had a very early flight, so the location was amazing. The pizza we ordered to take back to our room after our long day of sight-seeing was delicious, the room was clean, quiet, and comfy. We wish we could have stayed longer as it was easily the best hotel of all that we stayed at!
Hostel is in a great place super close to Bergen city center and hiking trails were easy to get to! Bergen is the perfect city if you want easy access to nature. Norway is a safe country anyway but as a solo female traveller I felt comfortable returning late. Staff are super helpful and facilities were always clean.
The location is perfect for seeing the major sights of Bergen, accessing the fjord cruises, as well as being the last stop for the Flybussen from the airport. The room is comfortable and has everything you expect for a standard hotel room. I would absolutely stay here again for a simple visit to the area.
great location, close to everything. Beautiful building with amazing architecture and murals on the dinning room walls... that's wort a visit jus by itself. Staff are friendly and willing to help with anything asked of them. The best experience of any hotel on my month long stay in Norway
Excellent location for the Norway in a nutshell day trip. clean room; modern renovated bathroom; very friendly and helpful staff. Beautiful historic building.
Buffet Breakfast has a lot of choices but I was in a rush and did not get to fully take advantage of it.
Clean. Comfortable bed. Hot, powerful shower. Laundry facilities at reasonable cost. Within 3 minutes of light rail, and a grocery even closer. Also, a most helpful and friendly staff.
Mostly, just a superb “value” in high-priced Norway.
This hotel is very conveniently located, near the center and right next to the old part of town, walking distance to all main attractions.
Rooms were comfortable, albeit on the smaller size (but typical in Norway).
Very good breakfast.
Nothing, as due to adverse weather conditions, the wost rain and flooding for 25 years in Norway, all trains were cancelled at 2hours notice, and all flights fully booked, so there was no way to get to Bergen.
The best apartment for my whole trip in Norway and north Euro, super comfortable and like at home, beautiful view and beautiful design, everything is amazing,wI will be here if travel to Bergen again.
This was the best hotel accommodation in the entirety of our trip to Norway. Best location by the harbor, awesome views, comfortable beds and large but cozy apartment with fully equipped kitchen.
Location was great, breakfast was the best we had in Norway, the staff were very nice, bathroom very good, the hotel itself is beautiful and the bar/breakfast area is really stunning.
Check in was easy and fast . Reception area is very cozy . Location is 3 minutes walk to the airport so if you have early morning flight this is the best hotel to be in
Perfect hotel, very clean, very good value price for Norway, just to keep in mind that it's not in the center of the city but there is a tram few steps from the hotel
This was the best booking I have ever made abroad or here in Norway. Perfect apartment and perfect location in Bergen. Beautiful apartment and nice neighborhoods.
