A Tempting Tuscan Sun
San Gimignano, with the Italian sun glistening intently on its 14 remaining towers, cuts a dramatic figure from its position high on a Tuscan hill overlooking vineyards. However, it is when you get up-close-and-personal with this medieval-walled city and crane your neck to the blue sky that you truly appreciate its mesmerising beauty.

A trip to Tuscany must include San Gimignano! Highly recommend for its medieval charm, spectacular views and delicious food. It really feels like stepping back in time. It’s not public transport accessible and if you have limited time, hiring a car is the best way to go. Ample public parking is available as well.
We visited around late October so it wasn’t too busy compared to summer time and the weather was perfectly warm during the day and mild around dinner time. Light jacket only. It’s a photographer’s delight as there’s always a scenic opportunity as we turn a corner.
From SG we drove to Siena, another stunning city close by and not to miss! For lunch we were lucky enough to stumble upon a small multi-Routard recommended resto and it seriously did not disappoint. It’s called Osteria Nonna Gina di Lella e Dado. Some of the best pasta we’ve had in Emilia Romagna is here.
Also don’t miss the gelato at Gelateria Dondoli, they’ve won multiple awards and offer unique gelato flavours you really have to try.

If you’re in Tuscany, you have to visit San Giminiano.
If you’re in Tuscany, you have to visit San Giminiano. The city centre has a very special architecture and a lot of small shops and wineries. It’s the perfect place to spend a few days with your spouse. We had a wine tasting at Marronaia Winery, close to the city and we enjoyed it, but next time I would also try another winery, like Tenuta Torciano, which we tried a few months earlier. We ate a fantastic meal at ristorante Fuoriluogo, which I recommend strongly. I recommend staying as close as possible to the city, it’s a nice feeling that you can walk while admiring the sights.

I can't describe it, you have to be there, you have to see this miracle.
I recommend parking lots number 3 and 4, there is always space, the price is reasonable and you only have to walk for a few minutes, and there is also an elevator.

It is one of the most unique destinations in all of Europe.
It is one of the most unique destinations in all of Europe. San Gimignano is a must-visit when in Tuscany. Its medieval appearance whisks you back in time and one can easily transform the tourists to locals bringing their food to market. High-quality restaurants and a world-champion gelateria, what is not to fall in love with. Leave your healed shoes at home and wear comfortable footwear as the streets, side streets and shops are far from smooth, but this is just part of the experience

You can explore the Torre Grossa and a couple of other sites with one pass, there's excellent pasta (you will smell the ragù while you explore in the afternoon!) and aperitivi for just a few euros, plenty of places to cool off with gelato, and the view over Tuscany from the Torre and the Rocca are spectacular.
The town in miniature is also worth your time. And be sure to have a glass of Vernaccia, the local white wine!
it is close to San Gimignano! great location to travel to siena, firenze all chianti area. the panoramic view was really impressive and beautiful. i could stay there all day looking at the view. the breakfast was great. (italian breakfast with bread, cheese, ham, fruits..) all the staff was very welcoming and inviting. helped us with nearby reservations. we were a bit busy traveling siena and San Gimignano. but we wish we could stay longer to experience pools and relax and enjoy the agriturismo! everything was great and we hope to comeback.
It is not often one gives 10 when ranking the room. Here, it definitely should be 10 :) Very nice owner, magnificient view on San Gimignano from the garden where the breakfast is served. The breakfast is not just a breakfast - variety of rolls, cakes, yoghurt - most of them home made. As usual in Italy - very good coffee. Very close, walking distance to the city. The owner recommended us a trattoria in San Gimignano and it was really worth the price we paid there. All over - no single item to complain :)
Set in a tiny adorable hamlet very near to San Gimignano. The family running the establishment very friendly and accommodating. Check-in with a welcoming glass of wine. The apartment was very comfortable for the four of us, with the facilities in the apartment perfectly suited. Position of the hamlet perfect for visiting San Gimignano and the surrounding area. Breakfast in a cozy area in the hamlet served by a combined effort of the family and friends. Breakfast plentiful and varied.
This was the best place we've stayed during our trip to Italy so far. The appartment was very confortable, clean and had everything we needed for our stay in San Gimignano. The location is extraordinary, right on the historic city. It has plenty of natural light and the decoration is very well thought out, giving the guests the feeling of being in an authentic tuscan house. The communication with Brunella was efficient and she is a very nice host. I would definetly stay there again.
This hotel is beautifully run! The staff are so helpful
And cudgels! From the moment Emanuele picked me up at the train station to the time I checked in with Massimo! Massimo arranged my dinner reservations and took excellent care of me. I come to Italy every year for a month and the bed is one of the most comfortable I have slept in! The location is incredible! I’m only sorry I didn’t stay 1 or 2 days more! They make you just feel special!
Big room, quiet and one of the best views we’ve ever had from a hotel room. Perfect view of the San Gimignano skyline with the vineyards in the foreground. Unforgettable. Breakfast and dinner excellent too especially with the Mormoraia wine! Staff very friendly and helpful. Something as simple as bring your bags to your room and parking your car for you goes such a long way after a long journey. Grazie Mile!
Antica Dimora is totally beautiful. The pictures don’t do it justice. The location is charming in this lovely small town. The bed was easily the most comfortable bed we’ve slept in in all of Italy. Clio could not have been more hospitable. It was great.
Beautiful setting, great pool and friendly, helpful staff. Spacious family room with 2 shower rooms. Free shuttle bus to San Gimignano. Lovely dinner in the courtyard. The lady at the bar (I think her name is Giusy) makes the best Aperol Spritz in Italy!!
This place is by far the best that we have stayed in in all of Italy. Tuscany is so gorgeous & this villa was right in the middle of the vineyards. So picturesque, comfy, great host, great linens, wonderful breakfast.
Excellent location, overviewing the vineyards. You can watch the suns goes down, while sipping a glass of wine in the garden. Very friendly staff, exceptional breakfast - best "corneto"(croissant) eaten in Italy.
A beautiful property in a stunning setting. The hotel was spotless. The staff were delightful. The food at the restaurant is amazing. The 1.6km trail to San Gimignano is indescribably lovely.
The location is right inside the city walls so super convenient to the public parking lot near the entrance and convenient for walking within the walls to all the sites in San Gimignano.
Friendly staff, very good location and comfortable room. The main location of the hotel, which is outside of San Gimignano has lovely surroundings and you can taste great wine.
perfect location the views were incredible and the food was amazing! Some of the best food we had in italy. The hosts were amazing and the pool was fabulous!
