There were too many steps to reach the bedroom, and it was quite far from the airport. The breakfast was poor.

I didn’t really like anything. The front desk made me carry my bag up 4 flights of stairs. The room was so hot when I got inside. There was no coffee in the rooms at all and I asked multiple time for it. The shower was also clogged.

San Jose as city is not too much to believe as other cities and is a crowded city We stayed at the outside skirts of San Jose where you have more nature, mountains/scenery and less city life and visited the city several times.

If you like a big city, San Jose is great.
If you like a big city, San Jose is great. We live in southern Costa Rica and only go to San Jose for doctor visits and shopping. It's best to take a taxi or Uber in San Jose. The traffic is crazy. Be sure to use the WAZE app instead of Google for driving around. It stays more up to date.

I did a tour for the first two weeks of the volcano area, rain forest, Caribbean, and then the Pacific side of the island. During the tour, we also ziplined, rode horseback, white water rafting, soaked in hot springs, and hiked the rain forest and volcano areas.
When the tour ended I stayed for another 10 days in downtown San Jose and did day trips out of the apartment.

We stayed here on our last night but wished we hadn't.
We stayed here on our last night but wished we hadn't. The hotel was good but there was nothing special about the city and we would have preferred to be back in Alajuela where we stayed on the first night. There was much less traffic there and lots of different birds in the trees. The park in San Jose only had grackles.

There is plenty to do in San Jose and the surrounding area.
There is plenty to do in San Jose and the surrounding area. Three places to recommend: the Jade Museum, the Post Office Museum and Lankester Botanical Garden on the road to Paraiso. The Jade Museum is a revelation - it is in a new building and has a wonderful exhibition about the Pre-Colombian inhabitants of Central America. Don't be put off by its title - it is not a museum of dusty cabinets full of jade objects. Just to the right of the entrance to the Central Post Office is a museum with displays of various themes - space, calypso, biodiversity - illustrated with stamps from all over the world. The Lankester Gardens is a gem. It's a centre for the study of orchids so visit at the right time of year, e.g. March, when many are in flower. The gardens are beautifully laid out and very well cared for.
This was the only good part of our trip. Marvin and Helen were the best hosts one could wish for. The hotel is a gem. The panoramic views from the common area at night were spectacular. The covered balconies are great when it rains. It wasn't a touristy luxurious place, but we really felt at home. We met local Costa Ricans, other Americans and made some good memories right there at the Hotel (were we were stuck our entire 12 day vacation, due to booking our rental car from booking.com and not getting it, or getting any help).
Most likely the best value in San Jose. It’s a motel that is run like a 4 star hotel. The staff really are top notch and you get a made to order breakfast every day. Good place for business, solo travelers, as well as groups. Super location and the casino is on the same lot so you have gambling and dinner right there at the place. Probably my favorite place to stay in the downtown area of San Jose. Gym is small but you can get a good workout and the equipment is in decent shape. No super annoying Covid rules.
This is a lovely authentic old colonial family house converted to a hotel..It's excellent value for money. The staff & owner are very friendly & go out of their way for their clients. The breakfast is light & very nice. The hotel is very close to lots of lovely outdoor restaurants & coffee shops in Escalante, one of the best areas in downtown San Jose, so it's worth checking out. All in all, this hotel is excellent value & we will certainly book it again upon our return.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Great breakfasts. Clean room and comfy bed. Great cooling off in courtyard pool. Located near Park and free gallery of Costa Rica art which was really interesting. Away from the busy centre of San Jose but walk there in 30mins. Close to some good restaurants. Taxi to airport around 25 minutes. Taxi to main Tracopa bus station about 10 minutes. Staff organised taxi for us and it arrived with in minutes. High recommend hotel.
The location for visiting the museums in San Jose is excellent. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel is modern and clean, and our room was furnished very nicely. The bed was comfortable and the linens were of very good quality. Some reviewers complained of noise from other rooms, but we could not hear our neighbors. The rooftop sitting area is beautiful.
the place is very nice and cosy. the people who work here are so friendly and helpful. rooms are clean, bed is comfortable. all good. its also in i would say kind of a safer area of san jose, and its easy to walk to nice restaurants and shops. they have such a nice outdoor sitting area and also the decoration of the hotel is so amazing. i did sleep very well.
we booked the hotel at the start and end of our travels and for that, it was perfect. It gave us a good opportunity to just arrive in Costa Rica and organize ourselves. The breakfast was really good and the first room we had very comfortable. Even though it is near San jose and in a city, it is a little bit secluded and has nature surrounding it.
The hotel is a convenient and affordable option for a short stay in San Jose. We stayed for one night after arriving in costa rica. We really liked the breakfast. You can opt for continental (pancakes) or costa rican (gallo pinto) and the coffee was great. The staff was very friendly and speaks good English.
The staff is wonderful and very helpful. Breakfast was very good (bread, jams, juice, fruit, and eggs with a slice of tomato) and plentiful. The location is great for exploring downtown San Jose, walking distance to almost everything. The owner even arranges affordable transportation to/from the airport.
It's in downtown San Jose so it's close to great food and transportation. The staff went over and beyond to help me so much I booked 2 more nights. Across the street from the jade museum, this oasis always had a soft breeze blowing in with beautiful plants hanging around. Comfortable beds with hot water!!
By far the best hotel experience in Costa Rica. As a local that looks for getaway places to avoid the routine, I keep coming back to this place. Incredible value for price, amazing staff, the art and ambiance of the hotel is unparalleled, and the location is very convenient even if it isn't downtown.
The place is well disposed for solo traveler: locker, box to store items in the bed, bathroom to hang your clothes and items, … Clean and facility on top. There is also a nice rooftop space.
Also the neighborhood seems much better than the rest of downtown San Jose.
Located right in the middle of downtown San Jose, the guy at the front desk was great, and it was extremely cheap. Also had a balcony overlooking the streets. The breakfast was also surprisingly good.
The location is great. Close to the Sabana park. It is a peaceful place. Not far from downtown San José. There ia very nice pool and the best japonese restaurant in town.
